The Organic Poultry Cooperative

In a nearby village of Konyango there is an organic poultry project run entirely by women. This women’s cooperative purchases and breeds chickens in order to sell their meat to the local community. Chickens are raised in a traditional, sustainable manner where other than the initial vaccinations, the chickens do not receive any medicines or chemicals with their food. In addition to their feed, the chickens roam free around the grass and feed on insects and plant matter they collect.

A chicken pen was built next to a member’s house where all the chickens roost. Much like the moringa cooperative, this group relies on the Microfinance Fund. During the festive seasons, the demand for chicken increases and so do the profits and subsequently the savings.
